The Poetry Of Embodied Ensemble
Whale Chorus is thrilled to welcome Finnish actress, director and acting teacher Anu Almagro to Newcastle for an acting master class in leading European ensemble theatre. Anu is an actress working with international multi-award winning theatre company Song of the Goat (Poland) since 2007. Her theatre practice is deeply rooted in cultural traditions and an exploration of the authentic and energetic connection between people. In this one-off weekend intensive you will explore actor training in the lineage of theatre practitioners such as Grotowski, Theatre Gardzienice and Song of the Goat (Poland). This workshop is a rare experience to encounter actor training in this Eastern European laboratory theatre tradition within Australia and an opportunity to expand your breadth as a performer.

About the Workshop
In this workshop you will explore exercises in movement, song, text and character designed to awaken the inner life of the actor and your sensitivity to the energetic connection between the ensemble. As Anu describes: “each workshop is based on authentic and energetic human connection. Exercises on movement, rhythm, body awareness, partnership, imagination, spatial relations, voice, text and singing all awaken the energetic surprising connection within and between performers. All the qualities between subtle and dynamic exist, as they do in human life. The intention lies in listening to one’s own experience whilst reacting to impulse and inspiration coming from the members of the ensemble”.
